North Devon three
North Devon seconds v Belstone
IN their first league game for five weeks Belstone completed the double over North Devon seconds with a solid all-round performance to win by six wickets.
North Devon's batsmen all made useful contributions but none dominated the attack or went on to produce the big score that the fast outfield demanded.
Matt Curtner-Smith top-scored with 39 made in 76 minutes, while the most unusual dismissal was John Wainwright (18), out leg before trying to reverse-sweep a Richard Drake floater.
Callum Mallett bowled a tidy spell in mid innings but remained wicket-less, while Harry Bushin (9-1-27-2) also found good line and length. The innings ended after 45 overs on 164 -7, helped by a liberal dose of Belstone wides (14) and no-balls (8).
In reply Belstone openers Phil Woods and Scott Tremain got the chase off to a confident start, putting on 85 in an hour before Woods was bowled by Gareth Carder (9-2-15-2) for 44.
Tremain followed soon after for 30 but the innings maintained momentum with six boundaries and a six from Drake (37).
North Devon were more wasteful of extras than Belstone, conceding 23 wides and 33 extras in all as the visitors reached their target with ten overs to spare.
