IN division one of the Okehampton and district table tennis league Okehampton B played Bridestowe.
Bridestowe’s Mark Hancock beat Nick Jackson in five sets and Francis Griffiths made it 2-0 when he beat Sarah Jackson in the fourth leg. Bridestowe only had two players, Mark and and Francis, who both went on to score maximums and won the doubles against Sarah and Zoe Bennett for a 7-3 win for Bridestowe.
North Wyke were home to Okehampton B, represented by two players. Enrique Cancer Barerra put the home side ahead when he beat Karen Stephenson; John Squire did well to beat Tom Misselbrook to level it at 2-2. Karen also beat Tom and went onto win her next games. John scored a fine maximum and joined Karen to win the doubles against Enrique and Tom for a 6-4 win for Okehampton B.
Okehampton C played league leaders Tavistock. Roger Bowkett had to pull out all the stops in the first game against Josh Parsons, winning in five sets. Peter Hicks beat Emily Haskell for the first time. Mark Bennett won the next against Connor Brooking.
Tavistock won all the next five singles and Roger and Peter lost the doubles against Josh and Connor for a 9-1 win for Tavistock, taking them 20 points clear of second placed Okehampton C.
Tavistock also played Okehampton B. In a hard fought first game Nick Jackson beat Roger Bowkett in five sets to put Oke B ahead before Tavistock won the next six singles. Nick won his second against Peter Hicks and joined his daughter Naomi to win the doubles against Mark Bennett and Peter for a 7-3 win to Tavistock.
In division two the young Okehampton team played league leaders Anchorage A, who proved too experienced for the youngsters, winning 10-0 to keep their 100% record.
Second placed Anchorage B were at home to Moretonhampstead. Anchorage raced into an 8-0 lead with Dave Wilson and David Vanstone scoring fine maximums, before David May beat Roger Gilbert in straight sets. Roger and David Vanstone beat David and Ken Underhill in the doubles for a 9-1 win.
