FORMER Chagford player, Paddy Gillies, returned to haunt his ex-colleagues as the visitors got the better of a bruising encounter.

The clearer first half chances fell to Hatherleigh and stand-in goalkeeper Dave Penberthy had to be sharp to deny them three times in the first 20 minutes.

In the thirty-first minute, Gary Mortimore was penalised for an unfortunate handball and, despite Penberthy's best efforts, Gillies forced home the spot kick.

The second half followed much the same way of the first, with Chagford being thwarted by a well marshalled defence and then being caught on the break.

Fortune favoured the hosts until Graham Davies broke clear to notch Hatherleigh's second and set the seal on a deserved result.
