THE increase in temperature made for hot racing conditions at the weekend. Okehampton Running Club members took part in the Tavy 13, the Exe to Axe and the Arlington Court Canter with some excellent results, including two top ten places and four age group prizes.

At the fifth Tavy13 hosted by neighbouring Tavistock Athletics Club, an undulating half marathon finishing on the new athletics track, Roger Voaden finished in sixth overall place and second Male Veteran 45 in 1 hour 23 minutes 46 seconds.

Paul Carter took ninth overall place and third MV45 in 1.25.44. Derek Jackson also had a good run to finish second in the MV55 category in 1.42.43. Other ORC times: Chris Aylen 1.59.48, Tracey Mills 2.16.01, Ali Holliday 2.16.15, Carole Cornwall 2.16.15.

Charlotte Radnor took on the seriously tough and challenging Exe to Axe race.

Starting at Exmouth the route takes the runners along the steep and rough coastal path to finish at Seaton – a distance of 20 miles. This is the first time Charlotte has raced this far – what a race to choose! She completed in 4.56.33.

In the north of the county, Mags Jarvis was at the Arlington Court Canter – another tough course along steep paths, some muddy and wet, through the woodlands and parks of the scenic National Trust Arlington Estate. She completed the 10k in 57.35 to win her VF55 age group and received a beautiful locally made 'Bideford' pottery plate for her efforts. Mags had walked one of the very same paths she ran along when on holiday in the area nearly 30 years ago!
