Devon and Exeter division three

Axminster Reserves 2

Chagford 3

GOALS from Davon Friend (2) and Andrew Davis gave Chagford a valuable three points to help them up the table.

The visitors might have done better against one of the division's weaker sides but an effective five game unbeaten run has done much to raise their spirits.

n Chagford are away to Newtown Reserves this week on Saturday, kick-off at 2.15pm.

CHAGFORD did well to recover from an early two goal deficit and salvage a point against the determined weather men.

Matt Baker and Alex Stone put the visitors two up inside 30 minutes, against the run of play. Deputising goalkeeper, Tom Pengelly was twice left exposed as his defence failed to return quickly enough from forays upfield.

The home team had their chances but failed to capitalise until handed a lifeline just before half-time, when Met Office skipper Clive Painter turned the ball into his own net.

The second half followed a similar pattern until home manager David Jordan converted an equaliser.

All Chagford's good work was nearly undone ten minutes from time, when a disastrous back pass fed Baker a second gift and gave Met Office the lead again.

Persistence though, eventually paid off as Paul Penberthy scrambled home Chagford's third with the clock running down.
