Devon and Exeter division three

Chagford 3

Newtown Reserves 1

IN a match of few chances, Chagford made the most of theirs and left the pitch satisfied with a good afternoon's work.

The hosts started well and immediately took the game to their opponents, Minett, Davis and Miller leading the way.

Miller's 12th minute free kick caused Alex problems in the Newtown area, the goalkeeper gathering at the second attempt but just minutes later Miller crossed for Andrew Davis to drill the ball home.

Newtown responded well hitting the Chagford woodwork twice and forcing Aylett into two excellent saves before the half was out.

Newtown were to equalise early in the second half when Hunter scored after Chagford's defence failed to clear a cross.

Knowing three points were there for the taking, Chagford lifted themselves and fought their way back into the game. This was exemplified as Miller harried Johns into a mistake and then drove in a cross for substitute Paul Penberthy to scramble in a second goal.

With time running out, Tom Stanbury broke free, clipped the ball over Alex and slid the ball into an empty net.
