OKEHAMPTON ladies hockey team went into the final league match of the season knowing that they were unassailable at the top of the league. 

For the first time in the club's history the ladies will be playing in the southern England league next season.  Okehampton finished yesterday with a goal difference overall of 46 across 16 games.

The high scoring was exhibited in this well played and friendly finale.  Isca opened the scoring when a shot off a short corner ricocheted off goalie, Shannon Osman and span round past.  Jo Moppett balanced the score line with a shot from the top of the D.

Moppett scored her second with a superb run across the goal mouth, to a ball that Isca thought was going off, to knock it back at an acute angle past the goalie. 

Isca were no walk over however; a swift attack down their right side wrong footed the Okehampton defence and the score was balanced again at 2-2.

The excellent team work of Moppett with player of the match Lesley Bingham continued as Bingham tapped balls around the defence and Moppett seized goal number three.  This pattern of swift and intelligent passing made many of the goal scoring opportunities.

Viv Weatherington, who spent the season saving goals for the team, was the next to score as she tapped in a beautiful cross from Kim Davey.  Moppett scored her fourth and Columbines' fifth when she took her and the ball out of the control of the defence.

Isca came back after half time continuing to demonstrate their effective team work with well tuned attacks down the right side.  Kim Bland, having an excellent game for Oke, foiled several forays.  Jane Jones, sweeper, blocked others as they became dangerous but Isca's creative play got them their well deserved third goal.

Kim Davey received more play on the right in the second half and scored two goals with the support of Alex Collins and the two forwards.  Moppett rounded off the Oke scoring. 

This was a glorious finish to an excellent season with captain Jo Moppett leading her team to victory.
