FOLLOWING the completion of the main refurbishment works and the official re-opening of the club, Tavistock Squash Club were lucky to have two professional squash players come along for a day to play and coach both juniors and adult members.

Joey Barrington, son of former six-time world champion Jonah Barrington, and Tim Vail, current British racketball champion, spent the morning coaching juniors and then led a coaching session with about 20 current adult members before playing an exhibition match.

Playing for such a long time proved not only Joey and Tim’s quality but also what levels of fitness are required to play the game at a high level. Some of the club’s best players struggled to keep up after ten minutes while Tim and Joey played for several hours!

This was the highlight of a busy week to promote the new facilities, which have created a modern high quality sports facility for Tavistock. The squash club is very grateful to everyone who has given their time and money to the club, with most contractors offering discounted charges or free labour to make sure it has been possible to finish the work.
