Okehampton ladies 9

White Eagles ladies 5

OKEHAMPTON ladies hockey first team started their first league match with new players and a fresh formation.

Okehampton started on the back foot and conceded the first two goals. Okehampton's defence of Rachel Hammett, Anna Cherrington, Nicola Stoneman and Jane Jones soon adjusted and helped feed the ball up the pitch.

A strike from Jo Moppett saw Molly Petherbridge score Oke's first goal on her debut. Moppett continued to use her stick skills and speed to weave around the opposite defence to score two more goals.

After a warning from the umpires, a White Eagles player was given a yellow card which left them with 10 players and Okehampton used this to their advantage.

After a short corner captain Lesley Bingham scored her first goal of the season as Okehampton went in at half-time 4-2 up.

At the start of the second half Petheridge scored two more goals to increase Oke's lead.

White Eagles stepped up their attack and a shot on goal injured Oke's goalie Shannon Osman, who could not carry on. The team carried on and with no goalkeeper an attempt of a save on the goal line by Rachel saw Oke concede another goal. Anna stepped in as goalie for the last 15 minutes and Oke stepped up their game to secure their win after Kim Davey's unstoppable strike over the goal line.

Player of the match went to Molly Petherbridge.
