Okehampton ladies 5

Plym Valley ladies 6

WHAT a game!  Okehampton Ladies went into this league match knowing that Plym Valley had beaten them 8-1 in their previous encounter.

By the end, hardly anyone knew what the score was as goals came so thick and fast.

From the off both sides exerted great pressure with fast passing and swift attacks.

The first goal to Plym came from a deflection off an Oke defender's stick.  Okehampton dominated the Plym half for the next ten minutes before Jo Moppett equalised.

Plym Valley responded with attack, with fast hard balls down their right wing for a cross into the circle — Oke right back Debbie Pritchard then hesitated on an easy ball in front of the goalie and the mis-hit  gave the visitors their second goal.

Plym added a third following a short corner.

Tight marking by Okehampton almost neutralised Plym Valley in the circle but Plym's fast pace made them always dangerous.

The visitors best goal from an excellent strike that made it 4-1 and another from a short corner meant gave them a 5-1 lead at half time.

In the second half however Okehampton's tactics and skill began to pay dividends.  Jane Jones, player of the match, blocked most of the attacks down the right wing.

Rachel Hammond picked up most of the rest.  Working with them, neat passing and commitment by Louise Weller and Tara Davidson would take the ball up to the forwards where Jo Moppett, Lesley Bingham and Kim Davey led the attacks.

Jo Moppett was mobbed whenever she got the ball but her pace and skill often got her through.  Finally Jo's cross was tapped in by Lesley Bingham.

In a similar partnership BIngham scored Okehampton's third goal following a strike from the back line to the top of the circle.  Okehampton had now got the measure.

The fourth soon followed with a lovely reverse stick from Jo Moppett who took the ball off the goalie's pads and went round her. Time was now getting tight. As a short corner was given to Okehampton the whistle went for time.  With nothing to lose Okehampton movingaround the circle in a controlled text book pattern hit their fifth.

Okehampton went off with their honour salvaged.
