OKEHAMPTON LADIES’ FIRSTS 1THE Columbines ventured to Penzance on a wet and windy Saturday.

Penzance started strong but the Okehampton defence of Nicky Pedrick, Helen Dalton and Emilia Bazeley defended well keeping them from scoring and pushing the ball wide which enabled Elly Jenkins to run the wing.

Oke midfielders Lucy Wiseman and Amy Taylor worked hard getting the ball to the forwards Claire Grubb, Anna Chrome and Lesley Bingham but Penzance came back and scored the first goal.

The visitors had several good runs, with Sophie Whiteley holding well in the middle and pushing up but they were unable to get through the Penzance defence and the home side scored twice more before half time.

In the second half Okehampton started off strongly with several attacks on the Penzance goal but were still unable to find the backboard.

Penzance came back and won several short corners but the Okehampton defence and keeper, Ella Kaye, worked hard to deny Penzance more goals.

Okehampton pushed again and gained a short corner, which ended with Lucy Wiseman hitting the back of the net to pull back to score to 3-1 to the hosts. Not deterred, Penzance kept pushing and scored two more goals.
