FRIENDS and former team-mates of Tavistock Cricket Club legend Stuart Munday will be playing a game in his memory at the ground he loved this Sunday, September 17.

Munday, who died earlier this year aged 72, will always be associated with Tavistock Cricket Club.

Tavistock wasn’t his first club – that was Whitchurch – but it was the club where he played, captained, chaired and was finally president. Towards the end of his lifetime in cricket Munday played for and captained Devon Seniors sides, latterly the Over-60s 2nd XI.

At the time of his death in May he was coming up to five years in post as chairman of the Devon League. He was also a Devon CCC committee member and an official of the David Shepherd Cricket Trust.

All Stuart’s connections will be represented at the game between a Tavistock XI and an Invitation XI.

Invitations have gone out to colleagues from Devon Seniors, representatives of the Devon Lions and the county club and former Tavistock players, among them Devon’s head coach Keith Donohue.

Andy Gauler, who has captained the 1st and 2nd XIs at Tavistock, will skipper the Invitation XI.

Start time is 12.30pm and all friends of Stuart’s are welcome to attend.

A plaque commemorating Stuart will be unveiled during the tea interval on the ground he always referred to as ‘the home of cricket’.
