Tavistock Ladies 1
Exeter University 1
HAVING drawn 3-3 in their prior meet against Exeter, the team travelled to the university side to see if they could come away with a win.
The game had a slow start with the Uni holding a half court press, throwing the away side off their normal shape. However the game quickly gained momentum and Exeter created several chances at goal with a narrow miss off the left post. This gave Tavistock ladies the wake up call they needed and soon the pressure was applied on the opposition’s defence with Lamb, Donnelly and Shillaw working hard in the forward line.
Another break by Exeter allowed them to win a penalty corner, a slick routine put the home in the lead.
Tavistock regrouped at half time and upped their intensity in the second half with the hardworking Nevin creating many chances through the midfield.
It didn’t take long for Tavistock to get their scoring opportunity when Armstrong converted a difficult strike on goal, from a wide angle on the left of the D; this brought the score to 1-1. The remainder of the game was a balance between attack and defence for both sides, leaving the final score as a draw.

TAVISTOCK travelled to Cornwall looking to open up a bigger lead on their match day opponents who sit in second place in the league.
The Reds started brightly and took an early lead through the ever impressive Ollie Richards, Tavistock won a free hit on the halfway line and thanks to the quick thinking of skipper Tom Honey they were quickly on the attack, Honey and Fenwick linked well on the right and when the latter found Richards in the D there was only ever going to be one outcome. The lead was soon doubled when Fenwick flicked a penalty corner past the Duchy keeper, and with both post players unable to stop the ball crossing the line. the Reds had opened up a two goal lead.
With just under 15 minutes remaining in the first half the home side scored twice in the space of four minutes to bring the game level at 2-2. Tavistock remained composed in possession of the ball and went in to the half time break 4-2 up thanks to goals from Will Jones and Fenwick.
Duchy suffered an injury blow when two players collided with each other, the resulting injuries meant both players did not return to the game.
The visitors looked to capatlise on the situation. Honey hit a pin point pass out of defence to forward Bob Carr who showed the skill to elininate his man before threading a ball through to Fenwick, who was left one on one with the keeper; the Tavistock front man rounded the keeper and diving at full length was able to slap the ball into the goal to claim his second successive hat trick in the league.
Despite scoring five goals and creating many more chances it was the solid defensive performance that provided the platform for their 14th successive league win (18th win in all competitons) of the season.
Despite being reduced to ten men following another injury the home side scored the last goal of the game, following a penalty corner in the last five miuntes. The victory moves Tavistock 11 points clear of their match day opponents and 14 points ahead of third-placed Marjons.
