Friendly Okehampton Argyle 4 Feniton 2 OKEHAMPTON continued their pre-season build up with a re-arranged game against Feniton at Simmons Park on Saturday. Despite enduring one or two dodgy periods in the game, in the main the home side played some neat incisive football and were comfortable 4-2 winners in the end. Such has been the numbers in training and the tremendous effort, work rate and commitment shown by all the players, so far, that manager Kevin Taylor had an abundance of players to choose from, which afforded him the opportunity to give one or two a full run out for the second team later in the day. Okehampton started brightly and Ed Squire had the ball in the net as early as the 5th minute only for the goal to be disallowed for ungentlemanly conduct. However, Squire was not to be denied and five minutes later he rounded off a neat four man move with a far post finish from close range. With visiting captain Ben Ede pulling the strings, Feniton came back into the game and were denied an equaliser when Jack Dixon pulled off a smart double save to keep Argyle's 1-0 lead intact. In the final ten minutes of the half, Oke's superior quality told as first Jason Cordice and then Brad Ausden were sent racing clear and both players finished coolly to send the home side in 3-0 to the good at the break. Argyle made six changes at half time but despite playing the better football it was Feniton who pulled a goal back through Mark Ebdon. Dean Jones added a fourth for Okehampton with a clever lob and it was Feniton's Paul Dowling who completed the scoring with the visitors' second goal in the closing stages. With better finishing and decision making in the final third the home side could have won by a greater margin which would have been a tad harsh on a plucky Feniton side. Immediately following the first team, Argyle Reserves were narrowly beaten 3-2 by Launceston Reserves with their goals coming courtesy of a James Williams header and a close range finish from Adam Mortimer. .
