OKEHAMPTON Smallbore Club shooters have their eye on the prizes as the winter league for the North Devon Smallbore competition 2012/2013 with just six rounds left to shoot.
This competition draws entries from some 20 Devon rifle clubs and the results so far for the Okehampton Smallbore Club are looking good.
In the individual championship, Paul Batten, the club's .22 rifle match secretary, leads overall and he is also in first place in the veterans' section. Paul has been shooting superbly and consistently this winter, with a average score of 98.8 (out of 100) - higher than his winning score of 98.2 from the 2012 summer league. Di Johnson is also shooting well and is lying in third place in the ladies' championship.
In the team sections, Okehampton Club's C team of Vince Floyd, Chris Short, Stuart Bennie and Martin Elliott is leading their division, having won 11 rounds out of 12 so far. The winter competition attracts entries from all over Devon and is shot at 25 yards on the OSC's indoor range in Okehampton using a .22 rifle on a bench rest to support the rifle rather than the prone position.
Each match consists of 20 shots, with a maximum possible score of 200 per match. Carol has scored a perfect 200 out of 200 in her last two matches.
