Penzance ladies 1
Okehampton ladies 2
OKEHAMPTON ladies first hockey team travelled down to Penzance on a wet and miserable Sunday.
Due to the pitch being slightly waterlogged, the start of the game had to be delayed. This did not affect Oke's performance and good passing from Tara Davidson, Lesley Bingham and Hannah Whiteley allowed Kim Davey to score an early first goal, with a superb shot from the edge of the D.
Both teams put up a good fight in the middle of the pitch for the ball and the game seemed even.
Penzance found themselves on the attack, however, a sliding save from Shannon Osman saw the Penzance shot sent out of the D.
Both teams came back from half time raring to go but it was Molly Petherbridge for Okehampton who put the away side 2-0 up after slotting the ball in from a fast pass across the D by Jo Moppett.
Penzance continued fighting and were awarded their only goal following a well worked short corner. This spurred the home side on and Penzance came at Okehampton with a number of attacks but the strong Okehampton defence made up of Anna Cherrington, Rachel Hammett, Jane Jones and Amanda Sim saw the attacks diminish.
Oke's player of the match Carol Taylor saw a number of the home side's attacks away from danger of the visitors' D.
Okehampton were pleased with their first away win of the season.
