OKEHAMPTON Tennis Club held their first mixed doubles tournament of the season, playing for the Ikoyi Cup earlier this month.

Ten couples took part in an American style tournament where players play four games with their partner and four games with their opposing partner.

This made for a sociable and very enjoyable competition.

The top players from each group then played in the final which consisted of one short set. After a close competition the

final was played between Angela Herrod-Taylor/John Jarvis and Vicky Bryceson/Stuart Jarvis.

It was an exciting finish to the day with both pairs evenly matched.

At 4-4 Stuart had an excellent service game taking the match to 5-4 in Vicky and Stuart’s favour. The pair continued to play very well in the following game and took the match 6-4.

Angela Herrod-Taylor presented the winners with the cup and the club hopes to hold another tournament at the end of the season.
