OKEHAMPTON ARGYLE 1

UNIVERSITY OF EXETER 0

OKEHAMPTON Argyle had yet more changes in the line up but were boosted by two new arrivals, Luke Reynolds and Craig Penberthy, both signing in the week to strengthen the squad.

Argyle started well but wasted a couple chances early on. However, midway through the first half saw the breakthrough come with Will Hawking spotting a large gap in the university back line and slotting a 60-yard ball through to Brad Ausden, who duly dispatched it into the net. Ausden was then replaced due to another injury by Penberthy.

University slowly started to get it together, playing some good football, and had large possessions of play but Okehampton stood firm and defended superbly for 90 minutes. From front to back the whole Argyle team put in a great effort. In goal Aaron Dearing made a couple crucial close range stops; the back three of Hawking, Dale Chadwick and Jamie Atherton were rarely exposed, being helped a lot by the midfield who worked tirelessly to break up play.

Argyle missed a few more opportunities to seal the win in the second half as the visitors tired but they held on for all three points. Atherton edged out Toby Gostling for Argyle’s man of the match. Overall this was not a vintage performance but a good team effort to get the job done. Okehampton now sit top of the table.
