Devon and Exeter two
Chagford 5
Axmouth Utd 0
FROM the first whistle, Chagford tore into their visitors at pace. Having beaten Chagford at home on the first day of the season and now in third place, Axmouth may have thought they were on easy ground this time.
Skipper Andrew Davis opened the scoring for the Moormen as early as the ninth minute with a low cross-shot to the far corner. Josh Stanbury followed suit with a similar shot nine minutes later and United knew they had their hands full.
Fast attacking and strong defending from the hosts set the pattern for the rest of the half, Alex Norman in goal having little to do.
Ten minutes before the break saw the best team goal of the game. Stanbury sent Miller free on the flank with a pinpoint pass, the tall veteran laying an early ball across the six yard line for Reuben Sampson to tap home.
It did not take much of the second half for Chagford to extend their lead as Astill-Sheppard worked himself into a crossing position to selflessly set up Stanbury for an easy second.
Jack Phillips, who had seen an earlier effort saved, drove home from distance in the 70th minute to seal the win.
Tedburn end Reserves’ run
Devon and Exeter nine
Tedburn St Mary Reserves 4
Chagford Reserves 1
CHAGFORD’s unbeaten run came to an end against a strong Saints’ team that were seeking to avenge an earlier defeat at the Memorial Ground.
Nathan Hubble bagged a consolation but now the Reserves will be looking at other results elsewhere, in the hope of gaining promotion. The side can go a long way to securing their future with a result against Central Reserves at home this weekend.
