Cup
Tavistock CFC ladies 3
Okehampton Argyle ladies 0
TAVISTOCK ladies kicked off the derby cup match with pace and pressure immediately putting the away team’s defence under stress.
Great linking play between Donna Hone and Robyn Hammond led to multiple shots and crosses being blocked and turned away from goal by a resilient Argyle defence.
Quick feet from player of the match Rebecca McMullen in the box drew a mistimed tackle via the Okehampton defender. The resulting penalty opened the scoring for Tavistock as Robyn Hammond rocketed the ball into the back of the net.
With all the play going Tavistock’s way Laura Phillip and Kirsty Jones worked well on the left to get the ball to Eleanor Mills-Hicks whose shot just over the keeper’s head was her first goal for Tavistock CFC ladies.
The second half continue with Tavistock pressuring hard and countless shots on target forcing some good saves and panicked Argyle to get bodies in the way. Becky Tuner was denied multiple shots hitting the crossbar with 10 minutes left on the clock.
Okehampton kept battling but could not break through Tavistock’s defence. In the closing minutes a free kick 30 yards from goal was coolly directed into the top right of the goal from Tavistock’s Robyn Hammond.
