Okehampton Argyle 1

Hatherleigh 0

ON a bright and beautiful Saturday a bumper crowd turned up to see the first Okehampton versus Hatherleigh in ten years and were rewarded with an entertaining match that both teams were desperate to win.

Although it ended with an Argyle win it could have easily ended up the other way.

Okehampton started with four of their regular starters missing and took a while to get their passing game together and it was Hatherleigh who created the first two opportunities to open the scoring; the home side having to thank goalkeeper Harry Gearing for keeping them in the game early on.

Argyle eventually started to get a foot into a game and after 30 minutes a great cross from the right hand side was superbly headed into the bottom corner by left back and man of the match Chris Hollands, giving the Hatherleigh keeper no chance

The second half, although keenly contested between both set of players, never really provided much goal mouth action and both keepers had a relatively easy 45 minutes.

Although the match was played in good spirits almost all game, despite the intense rivalry, an altercation with five minutes to go ended up with three players getting yellow cards, including Argyle’s Luke Alden being sent off as he had already been yellow carded for kicking the ball away earlier in the match.

This was another three points for Argyle which means they remain in fourth place in the league but are no closer to the summit of the league as the top three teams all won again.
