Okehampton Argyle 2
Heavitree 1
SATURDAY’S game was a pretty even affair with neither team really creating any clear cut chances in the first half.
However, Heavitree were just about the better team and scored after 42 minutes when a well taken free kick into the box from the left hand side was headed home by a Heavitree defender who just beat the Okehampton goalkeeper to the ball to make it 0-1 to the away team.
The second half was a completely different affair with Okehampton almost completely on top apart from the odd Heavitree breakaway.
Argyle created numerous opportunities to equalise but eventually it was the introduction of Steve Madge from the bench with 20 minutes to go that changed the game when he broke the Heavitree offside trap and was brought down by the Heavitree goalkeeper. From the resulting penalty the ball was duly dispatched into the top corner by Dale Chadwick to make it 1-1.
Sixty seconds later it was 2-1 to Okehampton when a great cross from the right hand side was deftly turned into the bottom left hand corner of the Heavitree goal by Steve Kinsey.
The remaining 15 minutes were completely controlled by Okehampton with the exception of the last minute when a last ditch tackle by Red Cann saved an almost certain equaliser to ensure Okehampton ran out the winners for the third game in a row. They now move up to fourth place in the table.
