OKEHAMPTON Argyle used their end of season presentation evening to celebrate their success and to thank two long standing members.
The well supported event at Okehampton Golf Club saw the dual celebration of the reserves coming runners up and the veterans winning their league, with both gaining a promotion for next season.
Individual club awards: First team – Ben Bickle, players’ player of the season and top scorer; Steve Kinsey, manager’s player of the season and Dec Grimshaw won the most improved player.
Second team – Ben Mitchell, players’ player; Freddie Lawrence, manager’s player; Ivan Kalinov top scorer with James Bridgeman scooping the most improved player award.
Argyle veterans – Ed Bradshaw, top scorer and players’ player Matty Adams.
Presentations were made to Jim Burdus and Charlie Bond to thank them both for their incredible efforts over many years. Between them they have held just about every role in the club at one point or another and without doubt they have kept the club running when times were difficult and it could easily have folded.
James Williams was presented with the club man of the year for his all-round commitment; as well as playing his normal defensive role, he happily moved between the sticks when required to fill in. He ran the first team on a couple of occasions when the manager was away and also took responsibility for the after match food for the first team.
Training will commence on Wednesday, July 11 at 7pm start at Simmons Park, and the annual meeting will be held on Thursday, July 12 in the clubhouse at 8pm.
