OKEHAMPTON ARGYLE RESERVES 6

OKEHAMPTON second team travelled to a Sidmouth side that had only lost one game so far this season and were not shy of scoring.

From kick off, however, wave after wave of through balls from Oke’s midfield three of Jamie Mallett, Scott Hooper and Dave Medland saw Argyle’s front three of Darren Gilbert, Steve Madge and Ryan Arthurs terrorise the home side’s defence. Ten minutes in and a low cross from Gilbert saw a howler from the Sidmouth goalkeeper gift Madge a tap in. A few minutes later another mistake from the home defence saw Arthurs loft a ball into space with the whole defence watching the ball bounce, leaving Gilbert to hit a shot into the bottom corner. Just before half-time close passing in the box from Hooper and Mallett saw Arthurs receive a pass outside the box, dribble past two defenders and leather a low drive into the far bottom corner. Sidmouth did threaten to break the half way line on occasions but Tom Williams made sure they were not getting near Ben Mitchell in goal.

In the second half Argyle missed chance after chance. However, Gilbert made it four as he received a ball 25 yards out from goal and and he walked through the defence to tap it past the goalkeeper who was rooted on his line.

Moments later a corner from Madge saw Hooper rise above two defenders to power towards the Sidmouth net with the final touch coming from defender Gareth Bridge.

Mallett made up for several missed chances as he saw a miss hit shot trickle into the bottom corner to round the game off at 6-0.

This was another clean sheet for Oke’s back line of Callum Rutley, Bridge, Liam Benstead and Williams which capped off another emphatic performance from top of the league Okehampton
