OKEHAMPTON ARGYLE RESERVES 1

KILKHAMPTON 1

(Okehampton Argyle seconds won 4-1 on penalties)

Okehampton were entered into the Pickard cup and faced a tough Kilkhampton side on the all-weather pitch at Ashbury.

A slow start to the game saw a much changed Argyle side settle into a workmanlike performance – a few mistakes in defence did not come to anything but at the other end chances were being missed regularly.

A forced first half substitution saw Kian Burns come on which proved to liven the home team up. However, the deadlock could still not be broken and it was 0-0 at half time.

Okehampton, who made two changes at the interval, started again on the attacking foot. An injury to Hawking meant they were reduced to 10 for the last 20 minutes.

Kilkampton were awarded a penalty when Hooper brought down an attacker in the box from which they made it 0-1.

Argyle piled on the pressure and eventually Kian Burns made the breakthrough driving the ball past the keeper into the bottom corner.

No extra time in the cup meant straight to penalties. Okes went first when Kinsey found the bottom corner. Mortimore fired home the second and Chadwick found the top corner for the third. Dearing, with a cracking save, denied Kilkhampton their second penalty and the visitors’ goalkeeper took their third only to miss the target. This left Ausden to win the game and his strike gave the keeper no chance to give Argyle victory.
