AFTER a torrid season in which their only reward from 34 South West Peninsula League games was four drawn matches, Okehampton Argyle have been relegated and will play next season in the Devon and Exeter League premier division.
So after gaining promotion from this league nine seasons ago to become founder members of the Peninsula League, they now return to their starting point. Argyle showed much improved form towards the end of the season with a well deserved draw against Sidmouth Town and losing out by the odd goal in a number of matches.
Club secretary Charlie Bond told Times Sport: ‘The feeling is that relegation offers the chance for the club to rebuild in what is still a very good standard of football and a bonus will be the return of the much vaunted local derby against Hatherleigh Town.’
The club’s annual meeting will take place on Monday, June 27 at 8pm in the clubhouse in Simmons Park. All supporters, players and other interested parties are invited to attend and any nominations for club officers will be welcome. Any new committee members will also be welcome.
* Recent winners (all £25) in the Argyle 200 club draw are: May 1, number 8, R Wonnacott;May 8, 88, Mr Williams; May 15, 191, N Drew; May 22, 25, F Cox; May 29, 14, P Cunliffe.
