OKEHAMPTON ladies’ second team travelled to face an informed Dawlish side who had not conceded any goals so far this season.

Just after pushback, Dawlish were in control and scored their first goal to make it 1-0.

Midfielders Nicki Strawbridge, Emma Wiseman and Eloise Maxa for Oke worked the ball back up the pitch to forward Rochelle Woollacott to equalise. With most of the play being in the attacking half, a lot of chances were made but Oke could not find the elusive backboard.

Just before the half time whistle, quick ball skills and quick, precise passing enabled Nicki Strawbridge to make it 2-1 to Okehampton

Unfortunately for the visitors, straight after the whistle was blown, Dawlish scored taking it to a 2-2 draw. Okehampton were now more determined than ever. Skilful play from sweeper and player of the match Carol Taylor enabled the play to again be in the attacking half. The ball found Alex Collins who scored to put Oke in the lead 3-2.

Dawlish then went down to nine players and the visitors used this to their advantage. A quick ball from defender Debbie Pritchard found Eloise Maxa, who making her debut for the ladies’ second team. soon found the backboard for 4-2. . With Dawlish now having 10 players, they came back strong. Oke defenders Rachel Adams and Anna Luxton tried to hold them off but after a few defending penalty corners, Dawlish skilfully got the ball past keeper Daisy Morgan taking the score to 4-3.

A determined final push from Okehampton saw all the players playing to the best of their ability and really putting the Dawlish squad under pressure, who by this time were tired. Teamwork and determination saw Nicki Strawbridge scoring again, to take the final score to 5-3 to Okehampton.

This was a fabulous win by Oke second team to keep them at the top of the league.
