TAVISTOCK CFC’s under 11s team continued their summer tournament tour which, when complete in August, will have covered over 750 miles!
This week they travelled to Cullompton Rangers’ annual six-a-side tournament. In their age group there were 21 teams from all over Devon, spilt into three leagues of seven.
Tavy started well with a 2-1 win over the hosts Cully Tigers. They then played Twyford and Pinhoe, beating both teams 1-0. In their fourth game, the heat seemed to take effect and they lost 3-0 against CS Cougars.
After plenty of fluid and snacks, in their next game they got back on track beating Sidmouth 2-0, and in the final group game they beat Moors Youth with a convincing 4-0 win.
The loss of one game in the group meant Tavy ended up second by just one point in Group B, and were rewarded with a quarter final against Galmington Dragons who won group C.
Now at the knock out stages, Tavy upped their game, two goals from Matt and one from Joe saw them progress to the semi final with a 3-1 win.
In the semi-final they came up against Moors FC. A great solo run and bottom corner finish from Matt calmed nerves, and then Joe headed in off the post to go two up, Moors scored late to make it 2-1.
Tavy were in the final against Cully Tigers, who they beat in the first game of the day, and had lost to in a semi final two weeks prior on penalties.
This was always going to be a well contested game, on a hot day, having already played eight games.
Tavy were dominant but squandered several chances. It was looking like extra time but Tavy got the breakthrough with a minute to go, and slotted home to be crowned champions.
This was a great team performance on a very hot day.
