TAVISTOCK AFC Reserves have two experienced coaches joining them in preparation for next season.

The East Cornwall premier outfit have recruited Ged King and Jeff Spear, who join from Plymouth Parkway, having coached at junior level for many years.

In a joint statement they said: ‘The move to Tavistock AFC is an exciting time where we will be working in close collaboration with the first team to support their progress and provide an aspirational path for the reserve players into the first team.

‘We have some players that fit that development profile who want to challenge for a place and are hoping that the existing talent in and around Tavistock, including existing reserve team players will be interested in this opportunity.

’A lack of competitive football at the junior level meant we had developed the side as far as possible and the time is right to move into the senior game. Between us, we have significant experience at these levels and so it seemed the natural progression. We will be available to offer advice to the junior teams and hopefully to set in place a path to the first team for all of the Tavistock Comm-unity teams/juniors.’

Richie Bolgiani, a spokesman for Tavistock AFC, told the Times: ‘Ged brings a wealth of football and coaching experience spanning some 32 years. He played football at Step six level for many years before moving into coaching some 12 years ago.

A UEFA B licenced coach, Ged has spent many successful years developing young talent, with many players stepping up to academy level at local professional clubs.

’Our teams play with a philosophy; we look to play entertaining football and to get the best out of players enabling them to flourish, gain confidence and improve.

‘It’s about having a team collective for us…. no cliques, just players working hard for each other and enjoying the game. Through this process our teams have gained a widely appreciated reputation for playing good quality entertaining football.

’Jeff has vast experience in football. He signed for Plymouth Argyle having played through the youth ranks before injury curtailed his time at the club.

Over many years, Jeff played for a number of teams both in the Western and the South West Peninsula Leagues. He has been coaching for four years, is well respected and offers great football insight, nous and guidance to the team.’

Richie said that the club are ambitious to do well next season.

He added: ’For the coming season we hope to help improve the structure of the club, and are looking to develop players who will progress into the first team.

‘We hope to create a side where all players are working to achieve first team recognition and to compete well in the ECPL division.’
