NORTH Tawton Youth Football Club Under 12s picked up tips from professional footballer George Friend writes Alan Quick.
Devon born George, who plays left back for Middlesborough FC, went along to North Tawton to take a training session with the Under 12s for their end of season treat.
George then gave the boys a chance to ask questions and talked about how he started as a youth player at Barnstaple before signing for Exeter City at age 18.
Since then George has played for several clubs, including Wolves and Doncaster, but is now settled at Middlesborough having played more than 200 games for the team, including one season in the Premier League.
One of the North Tawton Youth FC Under 12s coaches, Neil Bragg, said: ‘It was an inspirational talk with George putting emphasis on the importance of working hard in every aspect of life including school and also enjoying and trying different sports.
‘The boys thoroughly enjoyed the evening and are looking forward to next season as Under 13s playing 11-a-side.’
The coaches, Richard Keast, Tom Beagent and Neil Bragg, welcome any players in that age group who might be interested in playing some pre-season friendlies to please contact them.
