Devon trophy
Okehampton ladies’ firsts 10
Plymouth University ladies’ seconds 2
ON a bright and sunny Sunday, Okehampton started strongly in this must win trophy game against Plymouth University seconds —knowing that the losing team would be knocked out of the competition.
Jo Moppett for Oke started strongly in her usual style, with flowing passes up the pitch; the resulting strike deflected by the keeper in the air within two minutes, setting the tone for the game.
Goals came quickly with Oke going 4-0 up with efforts from Moppet and an impressive hat-trick from new find Laura Parsons before conceding a goal on the break.
After half time Oke worked hard despite the heat. Led by Carol Taylor, the defence successfully protected their goal. They then added to their score tally with strikes from captain Kim Davey, both in open play and a successfully converted penalty, Hannah Whiteley, Annebelle Rademaker and another from Moppett. Amidst this flurry a fluke penalty corner gave Plymouth their second consolation goal despite keeper Alice Wiseman’s best efforts.
A superb reverse stick effort saw Parsons score her fourth ending on a high at 10-2.
This was another double figure score for Okehampton ladies this season, who progress convincingly to the next round.
