THE amazing generosity of the members of Okehampton Golf Club during fundraising has seen the club install two defibrillators at separate sites within the course.
At the beginning of this year Gary Carey initiated the fund raising project with the aim to apply to the British Heart Foundation for a grant towards the purchase of one defibrillator. The fundraising efforts proved so successful was this that a second defibrillator has now been purchased with the funds raised.
Club captain Paul Douglas said: ‘The club and its members are incredibly grateful to Gary Carey and Bev Lawson for getting the ball rolling with fund raising and the grant application. We are indebted to South Western Ambulance Service Paramedic and club member Gerry Carpanini, who has given up his free time to train over 60 of our members in CPR and defibrillator use this year alone.
‘Gerry is committed to further training sessions in the future and we are extremely grateful to him for teaching so many members, their families & friends such a vital life skill. Our thanks also to the British Heart Foundation for all their help.’
lThese CPR and defibrillator training sessions are open to all and completely free of charge, if anyone wishes to attend a future session please contact Beverley Lawson on 01837 52113 option 4 or contact the club via their website www.okehamptongolfclub.co.uk
