Carlsberg South West Peninsula League division one East
Okehampton Argyle 3
Exeter University 1
ARGYLE put in a fine second half performance at Simmons Park on Saturday to come from behind against a fast and fit University side and complete the double over their opponents.
The first half saw both sides play some good football and put together some flowing moves but neither side was able to put the finishing touches to their good approach work.
The students took the lead 10 minutes before half-time when the Argyle defence was guilty of sloppy work in front of their own goal and Peter Beadle stepped up to rifle home the opening goal to give the University an half-time lead.
In the second half striker Ed Bradshaw moved into the middle of defence and had a fine game. Okehampton were level within seven minutes. John Wiseman picked out Steve Kinsey with a fine pass from wide on the right, and the striker receiving the ball with his back to the goal did superbly to turn and fire the ball into the corner of the net from 15 yards.
Three minutes later and Argyle had the lead. Luke Alden found John Wiseman wide on the right and he cut inside his marker and fired home a brilliant curved shot from 30 yards the ball hitting the inside of the far post and rocketing into the net.
Shortly after, Steve Kinsey was injured and was replaced by Jonjo Fellows making his first appearance of the season. His speed and constant harrying proved to be a continual worry to the University's back four.
The students made a big effort to pull the game out of the fire and Argyle's defence worked hard to keep them out with keeper Harry Geering making some fine saves.
With ten minutes remaining Argyle hit their visitors on the break with a lightning attack which culminated with Brad Ausden's superb pass finding Luke Alden. Alden beat his defender and fired past the visiting keeper to make the game safe.
This was another fine all round team performance with John Wiseman man of the match.
