Okehampton ladies seconds 2

Sidmouth and Ottery ladies 0

THE home team dominated the opening quarter.

Possession of the ball and clean fast passing between forwards Alec Collins, Tilly Dixon and Ellie Shayler meant play was focused in the opposition’s circle. Rochelle Woollacott, centre marker and midfield attackers Sophia Marshall and Rachel Adams were close at hand to intercept any loose balls preventing the visitors making any progress forward.

Alex Collins found space in the midfield and fed the ball into the circle to Tilly Dixon whose shot gave the team an early lead.

Sidmouth and Ottery fought back and the home defence had to engage in a series of strong attacks on goal. Sweeper and player of the match Sandy Douglas was quick to block a threatening strike at goal and hit the ball out to the side line. Oke right back Debbie Pritchard intercepted the pass and cleared the ball up the line to Emma Wiseman, who with a fast pass across the D found the end of Anabelle Rademaker’s stick deflecting it into the goal and taking the lead to 2-0 at half time.

The second half saw the visitors make an impressive comeback but goalie Daisy Morgan ensured that every shot on goal stayed clear of the backboard.

Okehampton stuck to their game plan of close marking and fast passing and, despite a more challenging second half, won their opening league fixture.
