Plymouth Marjon 3
Okehampton A 0
OKEHAMPTON men’s seconds’ hockey team had some players missing but managed to raise a young and enthusiastic team.
Marjon were quick to start, using the width of the pitch to their advantage. They soon took the lead with a well worked goal, although Okehampton’s defence and Ebby Vallance (Oke man of the match) in goal kept out most chances, a short corner was soon conceded. Using the bouncy pitch to their advantage the shot managed to bobble itself into the bottom corner.
Another Marjon goal meant Okehampton went into the second half 2-0 down.
Again the University were quick off the mark; a chipping shot from the Marjon forward was set to be their third goal, until Ebby Vallance leapt like a salmon to prevent the ball from going in.
The visiting defence continued to be strong, with John Jarvis making some superb clearances and tackles and more saves were made by keeper Vallance too.
Suddenly, in a quick change of possession, Okehampton broke and Chris Luxton was seen sprinting upfield. Luxton, was able to skill his way past the keeper but could not convert the shot.
Marjons were again on the ball, and countered with an overlap upfield. After the winger crossed a potentially high ball into the D the unmarked forward quickly finished the chance making it 3-0.
Okehampton played a strong defensive game and were determined throughout.
