RUNNERS tend to have unusual ideas as to what makes a holiday as proven by Chris Aylen of Okehampton Running Club. During a stay in the Lakes, Chris decided to run the arduous Karrimoor Trail challenge involving 14 miles of tough fell.
His run did include some excellent views over Derwentwater and Bassenthwaite but unfortunately, due to his timing chip not working, his time of two hours 23 minutes could not be officially recorded.
Ready for another challenge, he and his wife, Fiona, then swam the Great North Swim in Lake Windermere, choosing the mile long option. On a chilly, windy day conditions were tough but there was no trouble from faulty chips.
Chris finished in 53 mins 45 secs and Fiona 1 hour, 8 mins 49 secs. With plenty of energy left on his return home he took part in a 100k cycle ride, the Dartmoor CycloSportive, to complete in 5.36.01.
The following weekend he took a rest to watch his son, Michael, take part in the Bude Triathlon. Fellow ORC member Tim Watson was also among the contestants for the 500m sea swim, 11 mile cycle and 5k run.
