Okehampton 9

THE Okehampton hockey squad, boosted by the return of Luke Miller from his ban, made light work of 'thumping' their opponents.

Skipper Mark Parsons opened the scoring after good work from Simon Bourne; he then doubled the score line when Miller unselfishly passed to leave him an open goal.

Miller himself then grabbed two goals before Sam Whalley made it five. The hosts managed to grab a scrappy goal before half time but it did nothing but make the visitors want more.

The second half saw more of the same as Whalley was allowed to roam free and his pass was picked up by Parsons, who rounded the keeper and slotted home for his hat-trick.

The seventh saw man of the match Will Cooper score a goal as he marauded forward from left back finding Parsons whose strike came off the crossbar and Cooper followed the ball for a tap in.

Leon Oxenham then scored a beauty as he hurdled a tackle and smashed the ball into the bottom corner before Parsons wrapped up the win with his fourth.

It was a terrific end to the season for Okehampton who finished the league joint third on points but goal difference placing them fifth. The Devon Trophy final awaits them on the April 12 at 11am in Okehampton against Plymouth Marjon B.
