JASON Ponsford, the match secretary of the Okehampton Smallbore Club's lightweight sport rifle is delighted with his 'A' team of Dave Saunders, Lawrence Bennie and Shaun Millership.

The team have won six rounds of the Devon Winter League competition out of the seven rounds shot so far over the winter, and are currently leading the competition on 'gun score' (where the team are awarded two points for each round they win and one point for a draw. Each shooter has to shoot 10 rounds over the winter season, of 20 shots per round and their targets are shot on the 20 yard indoor range at the Okehampton Smallbore Club.

The main differences between lightweight sport rifle and prone rifle competition are that the targets are shot from the standing position (unsupported) at 20 yards, and the rifles are usually fitted with optical (telescopic) sights. Unlike prone rifle, no slings or special clothing may be used.

There are just three rounds left to shoot so the 'A' team will be aiming to end the season on a high!
