Sunday sides Exe ladies 3 Okehampton ladies 6 ON Sunday Okehampton ladies development hockey team travelled to Exeter to play a similar team from Exe Hockey Club. The Oke side was comprised of some younger players who are making the transition from junior to senior hockey and also some of the 'back to hockey' ladies playing their first competitive hockey — a couple of more experienced club players completed the team line up. Okehampton played positive and attacking hockey and right wing Larissa Goodger used her speed to beat the Exe defence and score the first goal. Despite strong tackling from Oke defenders Lois Rowlands and Anna Luxton Exe slotted in an equaliser. Just before half time Oke regained the lead when Viv Weatherington scored. Oke became more confident in the second half with speedy forward Hope Jewell scoring a hat-trick as she weaved around the Exe defence. The Exe team tried to dominate the middle of the pitch but Anna Speak at centre half rose to the occasion tackling strongly and distributing the ball to her team. Exe then tried to attack down the wings forcing Oke half backs Liz Ash and Melissa Penfield to stop them with their tight marking and quick interceptions. Despite great team play from Oke Exe managed to put two more goals past the Oke keeper. This only made Oke more determined and left wing Sarah Bazeley was unlucky not to get her efforts rewarded with a goal. Viv Weatherington got her stick a lovely cross from Hope Jewell to score Okehampton's sixth.
