Okehampton A 1
OPM B 0
OKEHAMPTON continued with winning ways against a more experienced OPM side.
Missing key members recruits from the youth squad made an appearance with Alfie Petherbridge making his debut for the club.
From the off it was clear that the Okehampton side were the stronger side with strong tackles at the back from Alex Osman and John Jarvis and likewise great linking up between the likes of Jake Lloyd, Jack Watson and Ben Harper.
However, despite a few short-corners and some dangerous attacks, the Oke side were unable to find the back of the net. There were some stoppages after an OPM defender was hit in the head and later another hit on the arm, both having to leave the pitch for treatment.
The OPM side tried to hit on the break but were unable due to great reading of the game and interceptions by Tim Morgan and player of the match Ross Davidson in the holding positions.
Despite this Okehampton went in at half time without a goal.
The visitors came out in the second half a bit more fired up and showed some dangerous play, but were unable to break the deadlock due to composed defence and good saves from Ebby Valance in goal.
A somewhat scrappy short corner led to a goal for Jake Lloyd, putting the home side ahead.
Oke continued to press and almost put a few more away, being unlucky in some last minute tackles from the OPM defence. As the game wore on, and the Oke players tired, OPM began to threaten on the counter more and more. The arrival of John Hobbs to the field of play gave a boost to the Oke side and they once again pushed up. Towards the end of the game the Oke defence showed their class with some superb tackles from Osman and Jarvis to stop breaks.
A short-corner at the death gave the away side one last attempt to salvage a draw but the Oke defence remained strong and the whistle concluded the match..
