Okehampton ladies’ seconds 2

Teign ladies thirds’ 1

OKEHAMPTON goalie Lucy Wiseman proved her talent again when Teign were able to make several shots on goal in the opening minutes.

Wiseman kicked everything away and Okehampton were able to get into their stride with good passing; Viv Weatherington dominating the centre with consistent and intelligent flair.

Okehampton then had Teign on the back foot and forced a short corner. Weatherington took the corner and with short sharp passes between Alex Collins and Jess Medland, Weatherington slipped the ball past to create the first goal of the match.

Soon after, an unfortunate incident led to stalwart Rochelle Woollacott having to leave injured with Rachael Adams stepping in to do stirling work as centre marker and keeping the centre-forward largely out of play.

Ellie Shayler, Jess Medland and Alex Collins worked hard to create more chances on goal with Shayler making several shots and Medland demonstrating a hunger for the ball in her debut game for Okehampton. It was in the second half that these efforts were rewarded and again off a short corner player of the match Weatherington scored that important second goal.

The pace of the game began to tell and a few more errors slipped in, not aided by a fairly bouncy surface.

A well-deserved goal by Teign with about 15 minutes to go meant that Oke began to fear their win could slip through their fingers. Teign pushed hard but Sandy Douglas, sweep, demonstrated her superb timing and ball control with several cannon shots up the field through the narrowest of gaps to put Teign back into defensive mode.

It was with some relief for them when Okehampton heard the final whistle with the score still at 2-1.
