IT has been another busy week for Tavistock Run Project athletes, with races in Plymouth and Exeter.
On Tuesday evening, Jordan Andrews travelled up to Exeter to take part in the last of the Exe Valley 5K series.
Jordan ran a very strong race to finish fourth overall in a PB time of 16 minutes and 13 seconds. A sub 16-minute 5K is certainly looming for Jordan.
Moving forwards towards last weekend saw the annual Plymouth Aquathlon.
Not Only did TRP member Sam Lake take part in this race, but so did her two children in the junior section. The weather was not on the side of the athletes and the entire Lake family performed brilliantly.
First up was Miley Lake, aged just 8 years old, who had the job of racing out to a nearby buoy and back to shore, then running along the nearby pier. Amazingly in her debut race Miley achieved first place in her age group. Next up was Joel Lake racing in a tough 11-12 years age group; being only ten years old, this was a big ask.
However, Joel stepped up to the mark giving a really gutsy 250m swim in very choppy waters followed by a 2km run. He finished an excellent fourth overall despite being one of the youngest in his age group.
Finally came the adults race. To begin, a very wavy and ‘uphill’ swim of 1,500m in the Mount Batten harbour, then 10km of scenic Plymstock.
Sam ran across the line in a strong first lady position overall; some nine minutes ahead of her next rival. This was a very pleasing day in the Lake household despite the gruelling conditions.
