Okehampton A 2
Truro 3
OKEHAMPTON A went into their home hockey match against Truro full of confidence and started strongly, with the energy pouring out of the midfield trio of Jake Lloyd, Neil Rowlands and James Hoskins.
The opposition created the occasional chance but these attacks were thwarted by the defence of Jimmy Lewis-Humbert, Tom Hutchins, John Jarvis and Mark Bingham.
It was one such chance that led to the opening goal as John Jarvis stole the ball off the Cornish attacker before firing the ball forward to Stuart Jarvis on the wing. After one of his lightning runs, he made it to the by-line and was able to pull the ball back to Chris Luxton to slot the ball into the bottom corner to give the home team a deserved lead. However, a quickly taken free hit by Truro caught the defence off guard and the scores were level at half time.
Alex Osman returned to the pitch after a lengthy suspension to add strength to the Okehampton defence and as the match began to open up, Mark Bingham made his way forward from the wingback position. The ball broke to man of the match Stuart Jarvis who took a touch before swivelling and smashing the ball through the despairing keeper to take the lead for the second time.
As the match progressed the home side were looking dangerous on the break with the fresh legs of Jacob Jones and Angus Cunningham but as the away side won a short corner they fired the ball towards the corner of the Okehampton goal. The ball found its way over the line to draw the visitors level.
The clock was approaching full time and it looked like a draw was inevitable but in the last minute of the match Truro managed to scrap a goal despite the best efforts of keeper home Ebby Vallance.
This result was not deserved after another fine performance from Okehampton A but they now need to move on to next week’s match and try to finish the year on a high.
