Bridgwater C 1
Okehampton A 5
AFTER last week's superb win against top of the table Teign Okehampton faced a different task against bottom side Bridgwater C. It took 10 minutes for the away side to find their stride with Bridgwater proving to be tougher than their position suggests. However the visitors scored first through Daan Rademaker from a pass across the goal pass by Brett Lawson.
Five minutes later Oke were two-up — Jake Lloyd scoring with some good ball control beating three defenders and the keeper. Moments later they extended their lead with another pin point pass from Lawson to find Alex Emuss. Despite being 3-0 up, Okehampton did not have it all their way and the defence of Hayden Bond, Ian Miller, Tom Morgan, Mike Reynolds, Scott Bending and Zac Middleton - along with the midfielders of Pete Hutchings, Rowan Perrior and Sam Whalley — had to be alert to the danger.
The second half was more of the same but the home goalkeeper frustrated the Oke attack until Jake Lloyd scored with a tame shot to make it 4-0.
Bridgwater then pulled a goal back with the Okehampton defence going to sleep momentarily. However, within a minute Jake Lloyd completing his hat-trick to make it 5-1 to Oke.
Pete Sim came on for Oke in the last 15 minutes to play the holding role and thought he had his chance to score after skinning the goalkeeper only for the goalkeeper to hook is leg enough for Sim to lose his momentum and the ball went off the field.
The game ended 5-1 to the visitors to cap off a great season for Okehampton.
Moving into a league higher many would have thought they would have one of the favourites for the drop at the beginning of the season but they came out a creditable fourth place.
Okehampton Hockey Club would like to thank the London Inn for their tremendous support over the past year.
