North Devon division two Belstone v Barnstaple and Pilton BELSTONE kept up the pressure on the leaders of Division Two in the North Devon League when they completed the double over Barnstaple and Pilton with a five-wicket win last Sunday at Rew Meadow. The visitors won the toss and got off to an excellent start with James Roe and Brady Saunders adding 65 untroubled runs for the first wicket in only 46 minutes and 13 overs. Roe (28), whose first scoring strokes had been four and six, then just failed to clear Scott Tremain at mid-off with a lofted drive off Ryan Dennis (7-1-33-1). Mitchell Wood was run out immediately before George McEndoo joined Saunders (29) to add 34 before the latter was out to a classic leg-side trap as he pushed forward to spinner Tom Pearce (9-0-31-2) only to pop up a catch to the fast-reacting Tremain, fielding close in at silly mid-on. Twelve-year-old Jack Moore was next in and he played with great assurance to make 18, although he was involved in running out two partners cheaply. Once the openers were out Belstone had a grip on the innings as nine wickets fell for 87 runs to leave the visitors, who were a man short, all out for 152 with ten overs remaining. Belstone soon lost Tremain slicing to Paul Schiller at point for four, but Phil Woods (18) and Pearce (15) added 39 for the second wicket before they also fell victims to McEndoo, who finished with 3-33 from his nine overs. For half an hour or more in mid-innings Barnstaple built some pressure, conceding just two runs an over, but eventually Matt Dennis broke the shackles, dispatching some full tosses to the boundary with characteristic power. He added 45 with skipper Richard Drake (24) and 43 with brother Ryan Dennis (16), reached his first half-century for the club after 64 minutes, and finished the match on 52 not out with six fours and a six.
