Okehampton 8

Plymouth Marjon B 1

ON a lovely sunny day the hosts expressed themselves and played some wonderful flowing hockey at times. Giving a debut to new signing Andy Strong up front and opting to try a new formation, the home side took control straight from the start.

It did not take long before all of their pressure resulted in a goal. The tremendous Simon Bourne pounced on a loose pass and he found Strong who went on a run and returned the ball to Bourne who slotted home. The second duly followed when Sam Whalley feed Mark Parsons, he found Josh Speak in acres and his shot was parried to Lewis Day, whose flick was saved only to fall for Strong, who reversed the ball home to score on his debut.

Parsons then added a third before half time when Joff Stephens cut the defence open with a fantastic through ball before Marjon had their one and only chance of the first half and a slight deflection took the ball beyond keeper Andy Harvey.

The second period changed little with the hosts dominating for large amounts of the half. Parsons added his second when Bourne's pass fell kindly and he played it through the keepers legs. Bourne himself added the fifth through a short corner. Strong then got his second with a simple finish and provided the seventh when his pass was turned into the goal by a defender. Man of the match Strong then set up the eighth goal when his shot was turned home by left back Will Cooper to complete a fantastic display and great result.

Next week Okehampton travel to Exeter to face ISCA B.
