IN division one of the Okehampton and district Table Tennis League Horrabridge A were at home to Okehampton A who raced into a 4-0 lead thanks to Steve Tyler beating John Stewart 11-7 in the fifth set.
Karen Stephenson beat Brendon Seward and John Squire beat Bob Newcombe before John Stewart pulled one back for Horrabridge A against John Squire.
Steve Tyler went on to score a fine maximum; Karen and John both won two singles and John Stewart won his second against Karen in the last singles. Steve and John Squire won the doubles against John and Brendon for a 8-2 win to Okehampton A.
In division two Anchorage B played Milton Abbot B. Tom Doidge beat David Wilson in the first game; Angherad Beaman won the second against Roger Gilbert and both went on to win all three singles for their maximums. Milton Abbot B are the only team to beat Anchorage B twice, apart from club rivals Anchorage A. With the score at 6-3 Anchorage won the doubles in three sets for a 6-4 win to Milton Abbot B.
Milton Abbot played Gunnislake. Again Tom Doidge and Angherad Beaman won the first two singles — Tom beat Mike Kinger and Angherad beat Michael Alexander. Jack Flockton pulled one back for Gunnislake against Prolemy Beaman, who was playing his first match. Tom won the next and went on to complete another maximum. Mike Kinger won the next against Angherad who joined Tom to win the doubles against Mike and Jack Flockton for a 7-3 win for the young team of Milton Abbot.
The last division two match was between the league leaders Anchorage A and Moreton-hampstead.
Malcolm Hopkins was the first to win against David May. Colin Brooker beat James May to put Anchorage A 2-0 ahead. Ken Underhill pulled one back beating Colin Jones in a hard fought four sets.
Anchorage A stepped up a gear winning the next three for a 6-1 lead. David May won the next singles while Malcolm won the last singles against James. Ken and David did well to win the doubles against Malcolm and Colin Brooker for a 7-3 win for Anchorage A. Both Malcolm and Colin Brooker scored fine maximums.
Tavistock won division one with last year’s division two winners Okehampton C runners-up.
The division two winners were Anchorage A with the new team Okehampton C in second place.
In the Pretoria Handicap Cup semi finals Milton Abbot B beat Anchorage B 6-1 and Bridestowe beat Tavistock 4-3. In the final Bridestowe beat Milton Abbot B 6-1. Tom Doidge saved the whitewash beating Francis Griffiths in the third set.
