Okehampton A 6 Plymouth Grammar Schools Old Boys' C 0 OKEHAMPTON A's hockey season campaign started off with a bang this weekend when they took on a young PGSOB's side. Oke had two new players starting for the first time Riou Thomas and keeper Ebby Valance. The game started off a bit scrappy for the home side with PGSOB making some threatening attacks. Alex Osman and John Jarvis stayed composed and made great tackles to distribute the ball wide for Riou Thomas and Tom Hutchings to get the ball up the wings for the attackers. Stuart Jarvis got his break into the D to get the first goal. PGSOB's defenders were doing all they could to make it hard for Oke to increase the score line. They had chances to get on the score sheet but young Valance kept his goal clean from any balls. Unfortunately for PGSOB just before the half time whistle Oke made it 2-0 with Lloyd getting his first of the game. After half time Oke played it around the pitch well turning up the pressure. A short corner allowed Oke captain Brett Lawson to drill the ball straight between the keeper's legs to make it 3-0. Part way through the second half a bad tackle was made by one of the PGSOB's defenders which led to the player being sent off. Oke made the most of the man advantage and a through ball to Jack Watson saw him putting the ball past the keeper to claim his first goal of the game making it 4-0. Minutes later another short corner was awarded to Oke, this time a lay off pass to Lloyd saw the keeper picking the ball out of the net again 5-0. With minutes to go Lloyd once again took on the defence and got his hat-trick to make it 6-0.
