South East two
Okehampton A 5
East Devon A 2
OKEHAMPTON'S team spirit was high and the team looked forward to putting in a good performance in front of the home crowd. It was good to see some of the younger members of the first team, who themselves only a couple of seasons ago, would have been second team regulars slot back into the side.
Almost straight from the start Okehampton took the lead. Jake Lloyd took on the East Devon defence single handedly and drove his shot home. Next up was Simon Bourne, who from pure perseverance when his original shot was saved, reacted quickly to sweep the ball home from off the floor. His second came from a good cross from Chris Luxton. Luxton then played a one two with Jake Lloyd leaving him with a simple tap in. The home side were working like a machine, passing and supporting each other with its defence rarely threaten.
The game was stopped briefly while Luxton received treatment after landing on his head following a challenge with the East Devon keeper. Oke captain Brett Lawson popped up for his goal after great work from Sam Whalley to make it 5-0 at half time.
Maybe two games in as many days started to take its toll on both teams and the play became a little disjointed. Man of the match Jon Hobbs had another impressive game in midfield while both Whalley and Lawson had good chances to score. However, a lapse of concentration saw Jonny Alying shown a yellow card for dangerous play in the D. This lead to a penalty flick that East Devon converted.
Tim Morgan also picked up a yellow card for lifting his stick too high! Okehampton were down to nine men and had to reshape to keep East Devon out but the visitors did score another goal to make the final score 5-2.
This was another impressive performance from the Oke A team.
