Galmpton United 2

Okehampton Argyle 0

ARGYLE were really unlucky to come away with nothing from this game, having matched their opponents in midfield throughout, but on the day the third placed home side were the better finishers.

The visitors had several players out due to injury and unavailability, with John Wiseman and Ollie Crimmins being the most missed. Their rearranged side included striker Ed Bradshaw in goal and he had a fine game having no chance with either of Galmpton's goals.

With a strong wind at their backs in the first half, Argyle looked the better side and really should have taken the lead.

The Okehampton midfield of Ed Squire, Kieron Glynn, Chris Wills, Alex Wren and Jamie Palfreyman shut down the home midfield effectively and began to create openings up front for Gary Hird and Steve Kinsey.

Twice Hird used his speed to get round the home defence but on each occasion he was thwarted by some fine goalkeeping from Galmpton's Matt Congdon. Congdon made several other fine saves as Argyle pressed and the score remained 0-0 at the interval.

The second half was a different story as the home side now had the wind in their favour and Argyle's three man back line of Dale Chadwick, Tom McGrattan and James Williams worked really hard to keep them at bay with help from the midfielders.

However, ten minutes in, good build up play by Galmpton saw Dan Rankin cross for Lloyd Clark to tap home from close range.

Argyle came back and should have equalised when a defence splitting pass from Glynn set Hird free with only Congdon to beat, but somehow the home keeper managed to save Hird's shot.

The final goal of the game came in the last minute as Argyle pushed forward for an equaliser. Galmpton punted the ball out of defence to clear their lines and Rankin raced clear to fire past Bradshaw with Argyle's defence caught out of position to give a flattering winning score to the home side.
